It is typical for your iPhone to feel warm to the touch while it's in use. If you are using your iPhone while it is charging, this will also cause the device to warm up. If it is becoming uncomfortable to touch, try the following troubleshooting steps:
Does the iPhone have any physical/liquid damage?
If yes, then you will need to contact Apple for service.
Are you using the charger that came with your iPhone?
Try using the original charger that was provided with your device.
Do you have many apps running at once?
Try exiting out of apps that you are not actively using.
Are there any unused features turned on (Including: wifi , Location, Bluetooth, etc.)?
Try turning off any network features that are not currently in use.
Is a thick case or holster being used with your iPhone?
Try removing the case and letting the device vent and cool off for about 10 minutes.
Is the screen brightness at the highest setting?
Try setting the brightness level to Auto, or to a lower level.
Is the Auto-Lock set for a long time?
Try reducing the Auto-Lock delay.
